Why should I support Bloodnet?

  •  For over 60 years, Bloodnet has been Lakeland's Community Blood Center!
  •  Because Bloodnet has partnered with Lakeland Regional Medical Center for over 60 years to provide an adequate blood supply, specialized services have been available for:
    • Cardiovascular Surgery
    • Neonatal Transfusions
    • Cancer Treatments
    • Level 2 Trauma Care
    • Therapeutic Apheresis Care
  •  During the past 60 years, Bloodnet developed a close relationship with local businesses and
organizations. Over 1600 local employers trust Bloodnet to enter their work place and conduct
    blood drives.
  •  Bloodnet has maintained an adequate blood supply for the community © emergency appeals are
rare and hospitals have never had to cancel surgeries due to lack of a local blood supply. The out
of town blood center cannot make this claim.
  •  Bloodnet supplies 10 area hospitals with blood and performs hundreds of thousands of infectious
disease tests on donor samples from blood centers from Massachusetts to Puerto Rico.
  •  Bloodnet employees over 145 staff and contributes significantly to the local economy through
    salaries.
  •  Bloodnet contributes significantly to the local economy through local purchases © "Buy
    Lakeland" is applied whenever possible.
  •  Bloodnet has used a local contractor for all three building projects and plans to use a local
contractor for the next expansion set for 2010, putting money into the local ecomony.
  •  Bloodnet performs over 1,000 outpatient therapeutic phlebotomies each year. The out of town
blood center does not provide this service to the community.
  •  Bloodnet has its own Institutional Review Board (IRB) to approve clinical trials which serve to
increase the safety of the blood supply.
  •  Bloodnet has its own Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) laboratory and has participated in a number of NAT © related clinical trials since 1999. The most current clinical trial involves testing for Hepatitis B virus and Bloodnet was the first to participate, implementing testing in May 2007. The out of town blood center only recently implemented this testing, approximately 10 months later than Bloodnet. Volunteer blood donors giving with Bloodnet receive a credit when they donate. That credit can be used at a later date to offset the expense of a unit of blood. This credit is sent directly to the patient and can be used any way the patient desires. The out of town blood center does not offer this program.
  •  For the last 50 years, Bloodnet multi-gallon donors have been honored and recognized each year at an annual dinner. Last yeará'ás dinner was attended by over 1,000 guests.
